Here are five places in Las Vegas you should think twice about visiting.
1. Some Areas of Fremont Street at Night:
Fremont Street is a top attraction in downtown Las Vegas, renowned for its spectacular light shows and vintage Vegas charm. While the Fremont Street Experience is generally safe and well-patrolled, some areas surrounding it, especially on the outskirts, can be less inviting, particularly late at night. Wandering too far from the main drag can lead to encountering poorly lit streets and increased chances of petty crime. Stick to the vibrant, central areas of Fremont Street, and avoid wandering alone after dark.
2. North Las Vegas (Certain Neighborhoods):
North Las Vegas has its share of residential neighborhoods and local attractions, but some parts of this area are notorious for higher crime rates. Tourists looking for authentic experiences might accidentally find themselves in unfamiliar neighborhoods that lack the safety and polish of more tourist-oriented zones. Reports of theft, loitering, and other incidents make it less appealing compared to modern alternatives like Fashion Show Mall or the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace. If you’re seeking a pleasant shopping experience, it’s best to steer clear of the Boulevard Mall.
4. Industrial Road After Hours:
Industrial Road runs parallel to the Strip and is often used as a shortcut or backroad for local traffic. While this street is not inherently dangerous during the day, it’s lined with warehouses, industrial buildings, and adult entertainment venues that can feel desolate and sketchy at night. With little foot traffic and few reasons for tourists to be there, Industrial Road is not a place to linger after dark.
5. The Tunnels Beneath Las Vegas:
Few tourists know about the network of storm drainage tunnels beneath Las Vegas. While these tunnels have gained notoriety for housing a homeless population and being featured in urban exploration documentaries, they’re incredibly dangerous. Flash flooding, unsanitary conditions, and crime make them a perilous place to venture. Though some people are drawn to the tunnels for curiosity or photography, entering them is not worth the risk.
